Wajak

# WAJAK, HOEKGROT & JIMBE ADL MESO/NEOLITIK
^^ Artefacts & tools found at the Sampung site have also been found at Wajak, Kecil, Hoekgrot & Jimbe (Tab-7). In addition, the same subrecent fauna has been found at all five sites (Tab-4). This was the main reason for the assumption that the sites Wajak, Hoekgrot & Jimbe belong to same period as the Sampung site, Meso &/or neolithic (Strom 1990b, 1992a in Strom 1995:33)

# DATING WAJAK, KECIL, HOEKGROT & JIMBE
^^ The datings of the faunal & human remains of the Wajak site & the finds of microliths would place the Wajak site in the Meso period following van Heekeren (1975) in his ideas about the epipalaeolithic period, roughly between 10000 & 5000BP; the sites Kecil, Hoekgrot & Jimbe would be Neo, roughly between 5000 & 3000BP (Storm 1995:33)

# TDK ADA ANTEMORTEM LOSS PD WAJAK-1 & WAJAK-2
^^ The teeth (WH-24&25) or Wajak-1 & Wajak-2 (WH-22&23): there is no evidence of antemortem loss of teeth (Storm 1995:44,53)

# DW WAJAK-1 HORIZONTAL
^^ ~~ the direction of the wear of the teeth is horizontal (Storm 1995:45)

# CARIES CALCULUS ABSCESSES PD WAJAK-1
^^ There is no calculus nor abscesses. Caries can clearly be seen in the right UM1 (occ, mesial/lingual) (Storm 1995:45)

# DW WAJAK-1
^^ The wear of the molars (using the method of Brothwell 1981) is follows (/=not possible to judge) (Storm 1995:45)
^^ RUM1=2+; RUM2=/; RUM3=2 — LUM1=/; LUM2=2; LUM3=/
^^ RLM1=3-; RLM2=2; RLM3=2 — LLM1-3=/

# DW WAJAK-2
^^ The wear of the molars (using the method of Brothwell 1981) is follows (/=not possible to judge) (Storm 1995:54)
^^ RUM1=/; RUM2=2; RUM3=2 — LUM1=3+; LUM2=2; LUM3=2
^^ RLM1=4; RLM2=2; RLM3=/ — LLM1=3+; LLM2=2; LLM3=2

# CARIES CALCULUS ABSCESSES PD WAJAK-2
^^ Caries is not clearly present & there is no calculus nor any sign of abscesses (Storm 1995:54)

# DW WAJAK-2 HORIZONTAL & OBLIQUE
^^ The occlusion can be judge as “moderate” & the direction of the wear of the teeth is horizontal & oblique (Storm 1995:54)

# HOEKGROT: PENEMUAN
^^ In the period from Oct 1890 till Dec 1890 excavations were carried out at the Hoekgrot site (~~ Eastern [corner] cave, gua Lawa ~~) (storm 1995:21)
^^ tdd 4 individual yi red-painted human material, non-coloured human remains, HG-W-36,39&40, HG-W-37 & HG-W-38 (Storm 1995:69)
^^ Part of the fossil bones were found at a depth of 1.25m below the surface ~~ one of the most striking [yg menarik perhatian] aspects of the HG material is the complete red painted skeleton ~~ (Storm 1995:22)

# SEX RED PAINTED SKELETON OF HG
^^ The most likely interpretation ~~ is that of a female ~~ the shape of the pelvis: possibly HG-R-15 belongs to a wide & greater sciatic notch & the ischial tuberosity is gracile ~~ however, this interpretation is somewhat weakened by the rather masculine development of the glabella, superciliary arches, zygomatic process of the temporal bone & the supramastoid crest (Storm 1995:69)

# AGE RED PAINTED SKELETON OF HG
^^ ~~ from the development of the dentition (Ubelaker’s 1978 method) ~~ adult: both UM3 are present (Storm 1995:69)
^^ ~~ Brothwell (1981) ~~ between 17-25 ya, closer to 25 ~~ anyway, the red painted can be interpreted as a YOUNG ADULT ~~ probably around 22-23 ya (Storm 1995:69,70)

# DW RED PAINTED SKELETON OF HG
^^ The LM1 shows very extensive wear, much more pronounced tha the opposite lying molars of the maxilla. This wear is somewhat oblique & down to the roots. Possibly this molars was heavily suffering from CARIES which led to the exctensive & somewhat oblique wear (Storm 1995:70)
